Mackinac Island's small Victorian Village overlooks
the beautiful Straits of Mackinac connecting
Lake Huron and Lake Michigan. The town, founded in the
early 1800s, was originally a fur-trading post.
For
over one hundred years now it has been a popular
summer resort. Visitors to Mackinac enjoy the island's unique
natural beauty as well as its many points of
historic interest such as Fort Mackinac and Grand Hotel. No automobiles
are allowed so visitors and residents travel by either horse-drawn
carriages such as this one, or by bicycle.
